Description
Fine Grade Detailing Clay is the perfect way to decontaminate your paintwork thoroughly.
Made from a highly engineered resin compound, our Fine Grade Detailing Clay is designed to be used for regular maintenance, removing light contamination. The Fine Grade Detailing Clay is designed to glide over the surface of your paintwork, clinging onto anything that sticks up from the surface of the paint including; grime, tree sap, metal dust and tar. These contaminants are picked up regularly during day to day driving and can cause uneccesarry wear on your paint. These contaminants are difficult to remove using normal polishes and paint cleansers.
Car-Chem’s Fine Grade Detailing Clay is gentle enough that it will not mark or marr your paintwork, but strong enough to remove contaminants, leaving your paintwork feeling as smooth as glass.
It can also be used on glass to remove any hard to remove contaminants.
Detailing Clay should always be used in conjunction with a Clay Lubricant or Quick Detailer.
How To Use:
- Wash and dry your vehicle.
- Spray a small area with clay lubricant.
- Gently rub the clay back and forth across the wet area. It will drag at first. This means that it is pulling contaminants out of the paint. When it glides
freely, the paintwork is clean. - Wipe the area with a clean microfibre cloth and use the clay lubricant to remove any clay residue. Rub your fingers across the paint now; it should be as smooth as glass. If it’s not, repeat the process. Reshape the clay bar as needed to expose a clean surface. Keep the clay well-lubricated.
- Continue these steps until you’ve clayed the entire vehicle.
- Always follow claying with a wax or sealant. Clay removes existing wax layers.
Top Tip:
Clay can also be used on your glass and chrome.
I tried Lockdown on my car for the first time this weekend and was very impressed with the results. Another great product from Car-Chem!
However, I would take issue with Car-Chem’s claims that Lockdown gives up to 12 months protection. I would not expect a product of this type to last that long and would be happy with good protection between maintenance washes. Car-Chem should update their product description for Lockdown and give a more realistic time for the duration of the protection.
I have heard mixed feelings about this product on the Car-Chem discussion groups but personally, I like it. The issue raised seems to be around its difficulty of application. I have applied it to my already polished and ceramic sealed glass and also to my neighbour’s grotty BMW as a test subject and have had no problems. My suggestion is to polish and then clean the glass to get the best possible foundation before applying it out of the sun. You want to have time to buff before it evaporates. Like most other Car-Chem products it seems to be water-based as it doesn’t give off the solvent fumes like its competitors. I’m not sure what Car-Chem suggests but I like to apply perhaps once every couple of months. As expected, once applied, the rain instantly beads and zips off.
I would like to see a smaller bottle offered. Because it needs applying so infrequently I think a 250ml spray bottle would be perfect and allow people to add it to their basket without such a hike in total basket cost. Just a thought.
